Should You Rent a Car?

The trip along the Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler can be one of the most breathtaking drives you’ll ever take. Enjoy spectacular views of the Howe Sound as you make your way up into the massive snow covered mountains of Whistler. Visitors from all around the world have travelled the incredible Sea to Sky route to Whistler.

The ride from Vancouver to Whistler contains multiple viewpoints and attractions, including the beautiful Shannon Falls located just before the halfway town of Squamish. In Squamish you can take a trip up the Sea to Sky Gondola to get a mountain-top view of the Howe Sound. Or take a look up at The Chief, the world famous climbing mountain, as you drive through Squamish.

Just after Squamish, on your trip towards Whistler, you’ll find Brackendale. Depending on the time of year, you can often spot bald eagles flying or perched in trees. Once you’re in Whistler for a few days, you can take a break from the action and check out the town of Pemberton. Located only a 25 minute drive North of Whistler, Pemberton features much different scenery than Whistler and is worth checking out if you have the spare time.

Whistler Travel Tips

You can rent a car just for the drive to Whistler and back or rent one to use during your stay. Most car rentals give you unlimited mileage, with ski racks and child seats available by request.

Ask about the One Way Round Trip which will let you use the vehicle for a 24 hour rental period in each direction. From Vancouver International Airport (YVR) or Sea-Tac Airport (SEA) to whistler and the return trip, but you won’t be able to use it during your stay. It’s a good way to save money on parking while you’re in Whistler. Rates are subject to availability.
