Whistler Activity Ideas for August Long Weekend
August Long weekend is upon us, and there’s too much to do this weekend in Whistler. In addition to experiencing the events that are happening, we have three activity ideas perfect for the beautiful weekend ahead. As well as, our favourite patios to enjoy an afternoon beverage.
- The Bulleit Bourbon Canadian National BBQ Championships, taking place outside our doors at Dusty’s Bar and BBQ
- Wanderlust Festival
- Redbull 400
- Whistler's Summer Concert Series with some great musicians playing over the weekend:
July 28th - Deya Dova, Lemanjo, DJ Tasha Blank & The Get Down Crew.
July 29th - Rising Appalachia Music, DJ Drez & Steel Pulse.
July 30th - Yotam Agam, Rafe Pearlman & Jose Gonzalez
Alpha Lake Park (Unlimited time)
Alpha Lake Park is located on the shores of Alpha Lake and is a short 8-minute walk from our three properties. At the park there is a huge list of features and activities to do, there include:
- Big grassy field
- Sandy Beach
- Pier and swim dock
- Kids playground
- Beach volleyball court
- Tennis court
- Basketball half court
- Picnic tables
- Water fountains
This is also a great park to bring your dog to, as there is a big fenced off-leash area called Arfa Park
This weekend spend an afternoon relaxing at Alpha Lake, while the kids run around and play.
White Water Rafting (2 – 8 hours)
White Water Rafting is a perfect activity for a sunny weekend in the sea to sky corridor. There are three companies in the corridor that run rafting tours, The Adventure Group (TAG) with Wedge Rafting, Canadian Outback Adventures and Reo Rafting.
The three rivers that these companies run tours on are:
- The Green River – Perfect for first-time rafters that are looking for a thrill, containing class 2 and three rapids.
- The Cheakamus River - Perfect for families and children as young as six years old. There are class 1 & 2 rapids, which are fun, easy, and splashy rapids.
- The Elaho-Squamish River – Perfect for those adventure seekers. This is the most exciting river to raft in the Sea to Sky area. With class 3 and 4 rapids.
Depending on the river you choose, there can be waves, drops, bounces, spins and splashes. Your boat needs to paddle together to maneuver over and around logs, rocks and various objects. The river paths take you through old growth forests, with amazing views of glaciers, mountain peaks, dormant volcanoes, waterfalls and wildlife. Bring out your adventurous side this long weekend!
Joffre Lakes Hike (Approximate 5 hours)
Joffre Lakes Provincial Park contains three beautiful turquoise glacier lakes. Lower, Middle and Upper Lake. The trail is 5.5k to the third lake taking you into the high alpine, surrounded by tower glaciers. The trail has a bit of everything, steep sections, bridges, gradual climbs and rocky areas. In total, you gain 400 meters in the 5.5km to the lake. Give yourself at least 4 hours and then factor in how much time you would like to spend at the upper lake. The trail head is located roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes. Dogs are welcome on the trail and be aware there is no cell reception.
Our favourite patios for an afternoon beverage are:
- Dusty’s Bar and BBQ
- Merlins Bar and Grill
- Table Nineteen Lakeside Eatery
- Cure Lounge and Patio
Have a great long weekend in Whistler!
