Relaxation 101: A Guide to the Scandinave Spa
The Scandinave Spa has been a favourite of Whistler locals and visitors since it opened. Nestled in the forest, amongst huge spruce and cedar trees, this gem of a spa should not be missed. The Scandinave prides itself on providing old-fashioned Finnish hydrotherapy, consisting of hot, cold, and relaxation cycles. Here are a few reasons that a visit to the Scandinave Spa is a must…
Leave the Phone at Home
While you may be tempted to text or email, cell phones are not permitted in the outdoor bath area at the Scandinave. A great excuse for tuning out the outside world and having some me-time…
No Talking, Please!
While it may seem a little odd, there is a ‘no talking’ rule that makes the Scandinave a magnet for people looking to completely unwind. As a result of this rule, the Scandinave is NOT a good place for a bachelorette pre-party gathering or a girls’ night out. What was that? That’s ok with you? Turns out you’re not alone. Silence is a delightful part of the experience.
Dry Heat Melts Away the Stress
We all know saunas are renowned for relaxing the muscles. But add a wood burning sauna to that equation and you have the most relaxing sauna ever. The Finnish sauna at Scandinave is an out-of-this-world experience. Lie on one of the long cedar benches and take some time for yourself. The exquisitely dry heat of the Finnish sauna will spoil you forever.
Did Someone Say Eucalyptus? (Shhhh!)
Along with the Finnish sauna, the eucalyptus steam room is just the right tonic for sore muscles. After a long day skiing or snowboarding in winter, or biking or hiking in summer, some quality time in the tiled steam room will have your body thanking you.
Don’t Forget to Plunge
While it may be tempting to avoid the cold pools after a stint in the Eucalyptus Steam Room or the Finnish Sauna, immersing the body in the plunge pool (even for just a few seconds) is a very beneficial step for your mind and body. Don’t skip it!
Enjoy Some Reading and Rest
After a plunge, head into one of the solarium's or sit in one of the wooden Adirondack deck chairs by the open fire to warm the body up gently. After the cycle is complete, you may not want to leave.
Enjoy a Healthy Meal Before Heading Back Out for More
The Scandinave has a bistro full of healthy and delicious menu options, so you can take a break after a few cycles of hydrotherapy for some sustenance. After fueling up, head back out to the baths.
Add a Massage for Sublime Relaxation
The Scandinave has registered massage therapists on site to make your spa day truly memorable. Be sure to reserve well in advance as the appointments book up fast particularly during peak seasons.
Once you’ve been to the Scandinave once, it will soon become a regular stop when you visit Whistler.
