Your Guide to Whistler’s Summer Festivals
While we all love a long winter full of epic powder days and massive snowfall, we’re all glad to see those sunny summer days come our way. Whistler celebrates summer by having festivals and events almost every weekend. We have events for children, beer lovers, yogi and nearly every group you can think of! Here we take a look at just a handful of the many festivals coming to Whistler this summer.
Wanderlust Festival Whistler
Wanderlust Festival Whistler is one for all you yoga lovers! Their mission is to ‘help you find your true north — to cultivate your best self.’ And they’ve been doing this in Whistler and all across North America for a number of years now. Wanderlust features a number of yoga classes lead by world-renowned yoga masters.
There are also workshops where you can take part in some hands-on learning of wellness and life improvement. This year Wanderlust is bringing HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) classes to the festival, another great way to improve your health! Wanderlust also has a silent disco in The GLC and some fantastic live music events!
Dates: August 1st - 4th 2019
Whistler Children’s Festival
Whistler is a playground for everybody! And that especially includes children! Whistler Children’s Festival has been running for an astonishing 36 years and has become a firm favorite with families through the Sea-to-Sky corridor. The festival is run by the Whistler Art’s Council who take great pride in organizing events that children will talk about for years to come.
Among the plentiful events, you’ll find storytelling, face painting, arts, music, science and lots of laughs! There are lots of free events during the festival, such as giant Jenga, the Coloring Village and a dance party on the opening Friday night. There are a number of paid events also available.
Dates: July 6th - 8th 2019
Tickets will be available closer to the festival.
Whistler Beer Festival
The Whistler Beer Festival has established itself as one of Whistler’s most popular summer festivals. Craft breweries from Canada and The US flock to Olympic Plaza to showcase the finest in craft beers. The Whistler Beer Festival also features food trucks with some delicious meals and live music throughout the weekend.
Over 70 breweries come to slog it out for the title of “People’s Choice”, as voted for by the attendees. The winners get their beer sold on tap right here in Whistler. And knowing how much people here love their beer, that’s a pretty lucrative prize!
Dates: September 14th - 15th 2019
Squamish Days Loggers Festival
This is one for the Canadian purists! The Squamish Days Loggers Festival is a celebration of logger sports and a whole host of exciting events for all the family. The festival takes place in nearby Squamish. As a spectator, you’ll be able to watch top-class axe throwing, tree climbing, tree chopping, speed bucking and much, much more.
As much fun as it is to watch, getting involved is so much better! The Squamish Days Loggers Festival has 4 days of events that are open to the public. There’s a chili cook-off between local restaurants, and they need you to be a judge! There’s also a ‘flashback’ one-mile run that aims to get everyone up and moving. The highlight for many attendees, however, is the Squamish Days Bed Race. This race consists of teams of 5 people and one bed. That’s right, a bed! 4 racers push, while one stays on the bed as the team negotiates an obstacle-laden course.
